The Super Lawyers selection process is quite extensive and has received a patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office in 2013. The process involves 4 steps:
Step 1: Nominations
Lawyers can be nominated by their peers, from 3rd party feedback, from a managing partner survey or identified through the Super Lawyers research team.
Step 2: Independent Research
Each candidate is evaluated on 12 indicators of professional achievement and peer recognition including such factors as:
- Education and experience
- Awards
- Certifications
- Verdicts
- Community service
- Professional activity
- Clients
Step 3: Peer Evaluation
A Blue Ribbon Panel is created with candidates who achieve the highest total points from steps 1 and 2. These members evaluate other candidates in their main practice area.
Step 4: Final Selection
Attorneys are selected to Super Lawyer status based on the size of their firms.
